I am sorry it took me awhile to update this. We also have done the second session on 21 Sep. The first 2 sessions showed pretty much what I expected from all of the participants. But I was more demanding of the participants during the second session then I was on the first. You may ask why this is so. The reason is simple. The first session was to establish where each of the participants are and for me to do needs analysis. The second session onwards will be to break down habits and push the participants into areas they are uncomfortable with and see how they cope. Each week, they will conduct a different movement from the repertoire, thus exposing them not to just one or two but as many as six movements from the repertoire. Finally, when I think I know which piece suites them best, I will assign the pieces and let them rehearse the band on that piece in preparation for the concert on 2 Nov 2016. I hope to achieve a good flow of conducting and for the participants a sense of fulfillment.

The following are some videos from the first two sessions. Apologies for the bad lighting on 17 Sep session.

Nicola 17 Sep

Amin 17 Sep, Amin 21 Sep

Hari 17 Sep, Hari 21 Sep

Gena 17 Sep, Gena 21 Sep

Wei Zhen 17 Sep, Wei Zhen 21 Sep

From the above videos, we can already see some improvements in their conducting. For some, it is about trying new things and changing old habits but all agreed they have learnt a lot from watching each other conduct.

My homework for them for the session on 28 Sep was to watch their videos and write down what they felt they needed to work on and make sure they don’t make the same mistakes from the previous 2 sessions.

I hope to get the other’s videos shared too so that you can see their progress and hopefully for some of you readers out there, aid you in deciding to join us next year 🙂 I already have some interest for next year’s session!
