We have entered into August 2017 and we are 8 weeks to the workshop! RPWS is going into second gear with repertoire preparations just before we take a 3-week End Semester Exams break from Mid-August onwards. Even the more experienced players in the band feedback at the end of the last rehearsal on how tired and drained they felt. The repertoire is challenging but I always believe that if you work on challenging repertoire, you will improve a lot faster. I see much potential in this year’s group and I am excited to share them with the participants of the WYCW 2017.

Course Scholarships
I am also proud to share that there are scholarships (covering course fees) provided to Two (2) Singaporean Full-time Students to attend the WYCW 2017. You must be either in a Secondary School, Junior College or Polytechnic and performing the duties of a Student Conductor in your CCA (Band/Chinese Orchestra/String Ensemble). Applications need to be received by 16 Aug 2017. Results will be announced on 1 Sep 2017.

Accommodations for Overseas Participants
A colleague from overseas who is considering participating in WYCW 2017 was asking about nearby accommodations. I never really thought of it but if you don’t mind crossing the border from Johor to Singapore daily, the hotels and hostels in JB are really affordable! RP is about 5-10mins on Bus no. 903 from the Checkpoint. There are many accommodations surrounding the Times Square and not to mention, great food as well.

Side track…. Watch out for the Combine Band for NDP Show 2017. Awesome display and you should not miss it. Watch it on TV, unless of course you are one of the lucky ones to be there at the Marina Floating Platform for the parade!
