Today we conducted the RPWS Annual ACM Selections. 5 participants did a 2-hour music theory paper that included harmony, orchestration and score reading. They then had a 30-minute conducting assessment each in front of the band. We had a guest today, Mr Adrian Tan. He is the Music Director of the Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra, Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Wind Symphony (SWS) and the SWS Youth. Together, we provided some guidance to the participants and checking if he or she is able absorb our teaching in conducting and also his or her learning potential. The ACM must be able to absorb much information and learning as there are simply so much to be learnt on the subject of conducting. This is the first time we have a guest to join us in this process and I thought that it was an invaluable experience both for the participants and the band.

The result of the ACM Selections will be announced in July when the band resumes practice after the Mid-Semester Assessment (MSA). The selected ACM will then assume responsibilities in the current RPWS EXCO upon confirmation and begin the 2-year Conducting Mentorship Programme (CMP).
