I have always wanted to add an international flavour to the workshop. But I know cost is always a big consideration. If you are working, you will need to take leave from work. Then there is matter of flight and accommodation for the duration of the workshop, meals and then the workshop fee. I know the costs add up and could be quite high. I went for a few workshops in the US and Europe and I know it is not cheap. But I gained a lot from being there and experiencing the different culture and also learning from the conducting tutors. Seeing the other participants conduct was also great as I saw many different perspectives and ideas on the same repertoire. As conductors, what we need is to travel and be involved in different settings. The exposure will be invaluable to our training and growth both as a conductor and as a musician.
There are many options for accommodations in Singapore for those who are looking to save cost. There are also budget flights that you could get to fly to Singapore if you are flying from around the region. If you need help with accommodation, I am more than happy to provide assistance. Let me know! For those residing in Johor and Malaysia, the workshop is conducted at the Republic Polytechnic in Woodlands! It is just 5 minutes from the Woodlands checkpoint.
A piece of news about COL Prateep. He has been studying for his Doctor of Music (D.M.) at the Mahidol University in Bangkok and he will be completing it at the end of this month! So when we have the workshop in September, he will not only be a Colonel in the Royal Thai Army, he will also be Dr. Prateep Suphanrojn 🙂 I am really proud of his achievements. Another piece of news that fills me with pride when I heard it is that Prateep has been tasked to write the Funeral March for the late King’s funeral in October this year. No greater honour can be bestowed upon him, I feel.
