First of all, what an amazing group of musicians! I can only say that the participants will have a fantastic band to work with. However, I must add, having this band means that we have to be really prepared to conduct. We must know exactly what to do with our scores.
I must admit I did not prepare my scores for this first reading session and I am still regretting it today. So… I did a bit of research into the scores that I am quite lost with…
I found this programme notes by Mark Heron for Danceries that I thought was close to my own thoughts.
Satoshi’s To be Vivid Stars still sounds much like how a typical piece from him sounds like; strong percussive rhythms and flowing and sweeping melodies. Beautiful overall and definitely going to be a crowd favourite.
Other pieces we did on the day:
Suite in Eb, Holst
English Folk Songs, Vaughan-Williams
Irish Tune from County Derry, Grainger
Shenandoah, Ticheli
Give us this Day, Movement 2, Maslanka
Overall… It was an amazing session. Mistakes were present but the sound and flow was amazing. I am more prepared for the next session!
